Turner's Modern World
Tate Britain, Westminster
Wednesday 28 October - Sunday 7 March
Millbank, Westminster, London SW1P 4RG, UK
“...indistinctness is my forte...” Turner once remarked. It's fortunate he was painting amidst all the smog of the industrial revolution and not 100 years prior when the air might have been clearer. Turner divides opinion but there is no doubt that his enigmatic style creates evocative images of industry and smog.
This exhibition will document Turner's fascination with steam boats and trains and industry more broadly, while also covering his more political paintings of the 1832 Reform act and the campaign against slavery.
